Setup

Set a handle to the lowest position on a cable machine. Stand with your side to the machine, feet shoulder-width apart. Grab the handle with your farthest hand. Take a step away from the machine to create tension on the cable.

How to perform

  1. Raise your arm out to the side, keeping it straight with a slight bend in the elbow.
  2. Continue until your arm is parallel to the floor.
  3. Pause briefly at the top.
  4. Slowly lower the handle back to the starting position.

Form cues

  • Keep your torso still; avoid using momentum.
  • Lead with the elbow.
  • Keep your wrist straight.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging the weight up.
  • Lifting the arm higher than parallel.
  • Using torso momentum to lift the weight.
