FAQ
How do I use a plate calculator?
Enter the total weight you want to lift (including the bar) and your barbell's weight. The calculator shows you which plates to load on each side. Always load the heaviest plates closest to the collar.
How much does a standard barbell weigh?
A standard Olympic men's barbell weighs 20 kg (44 lb). A women's Olympic bar is 15 kg (33 lb). Most home-gym training bars are 20 kg. EZ-curl bars are typically 7–11 kg, and trap bars vary from 20–30 kg.
What plates do most gyms have?
In kg gyms: 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5, and sometimes 1.25 kg. In lb gyms: 45, 35, 25, 10, 5, and 2.5 lb. Some commercial gyms also stock fractional plates (0.5 / 0.25 kg) for slow progression.
Why does the plate calculator round?
If your gym doesn't have small enough plates to hit the exact weight, the calculator picks the closest combination it can build. Add fractional plates (1.25 kg or 0.5 kg) to your gym bag to hit any number exactly.
